Zoom Horny Toad

The Zoom Horny Toad is a proven soft-plastic topwater frog designed to buzz across grass, lily pads and shallow cover while creating aggressive surface action that draws explosive strikes from largemouth bass.

Unlike a hollow-body frog, the Horny Toad uses a solid soft-plastic body with paddle-style feet that kick and churn across the surface. Rig it weedless on a wide-gap frog hook and you have a topwater bait that can be worked through vegetation, across open pockets and around cover with very little to hang up.

For Florida bass fishing, it's a natural choice for hydrilla, Kissimmee grass, lily pads and shallow vegetation.

Buzzing Topwater Action

The Horny Toad's defining feature is its pair of kicking paddle feet.

As the bait moves across the surface, the feet create a steady pitter-patter disturbance, giving bass both sound and movement to track.

Speed up the retrieve for a more aggressive presentation or slow it down when you want the bait to stay around productive cover longer.

Built for Weedless Fishing

Rig the Horny Toad Texas-style on an appropriately sized wide-gap or frog hook and bury or lightly skin-hook the point to create a weedless presentation.

That lets you fish areas where conventional treble-hook topwaters can become difficult to use.

Throw it across:

• Hydrilla
• Lily pads
• Kissimmee grass
• Matted vegetation
• Reeds
• Shallow grass
• Laydowns
• Open pockets in vegetation
• Pond cover

Cover Water

The Horny Toad is an excellent search bait when bass are willing to feed on top.

Cast it long and keep the bait moving across large grass flats or vegetation fields.

When you reach an opening or especially productive piece of cover, slow the retrieve or pause briefly before continuing.

This combination of weedless rigging and continuous surface action allows anglers to cover water efficiently without constantly cleaning vegetation from the bait.

Fish It Through the Thick Stuff

One of the biggest advantages of a soft-plastic buzzing frog is where you can put it.

The Horny Toad can move from relatively open water directly across pads, grass and other surface vegetation without requiring you to change lures.

That makes it especially useful in Florida, where bass frequently position beneath or along the edges of heavy vegetation.

Hook Selection

A strong wide-gap frog hook is a good match for the Horny Toad's solid body.

Zoom has specifically shown the Horny Toad paired with wide-gap frog hooks in the 5/0–6/0 range, giving the bait enough hook gap for solid hookups while maintaining its weedless presentation.

Rig the body straight so both legs work evenly during the retrieve.

Excellent for Florida Bass Fishing

The Zoom Horny Toad is right at home in Florida's shallow, vegetation-heavy bass fisheries.

Fish it around:

• Hydrilla
• Kissimmee grass
• Lily pads
• Reeds
• Mats
• Canal edges
• Pond vegetation
• Shallow flats
• Grass lines
• Open pockets

It's particularly useful when bass are active but the vegetation makes conventional topwater plugs difficult to fish cleanly.

Why Choose the Zoom Horny Toad?

The Horny Toad gives anglers the excitement of a topwater bait with the ability to fish through vegetation that would quickly foul many treble-hook lures.

Its kicking feet create constant surface disturbance, while the weedless soft-plastic body lets you throw it into the places where shallow bass actually live.

That combination has made the Horny Toad a long-standing favorite for fishing grass and heavy cover.

Premier Tackle Take

The Zoom Horny Toad is made for Florida bass fishing.

When hydrilla, pads and other vegetation cover the surface, we'd rig it weedless on a strong wide-gap hook and work it right across the top.

Don't stop at the edge of the grass. One of the biggest advantages of the Horny Toad is being able to bring the bait across vegetation, through an open pocket and right back onto the cover without interrupting the retrieve.

It's also a great bait for covering water quickly when you're trying to locate active bass.

For Florida ponds and vegetation-heavy lakes, the Horny Toad is a proven topwater bait worth keeping ready.
