Van Staal VRII Bailed Spinning Reel

The Van Staal VRII Bailed Spinning Reel brings Van Staal's legendary sealed-reel philosophy into a lighter, highly versatile spinning platform built for serious saltwater anglers.

Machined from 6061 aluminum with a fully sealed body and spool, the VRII is designed to keep saltwater, spray and debris away from critical internal components while maintaining the lighter feel anglers want for casting and all-day fishing. A powerful waterproof drag system and stainless-steel spiral-bevel gearing give the reel the strength and reliability needed for demanding saltwater use.

From casting artificials along Florida beaches and passes to chasing snook, tarpon and other hard-fighting coastal species, the VRII provides Van Staal durability in a more versatile bailed spinning reel.

Fully Sealed Construction

Saltwater protection is at the heart of the VRII.

Van Staal uses a fully sealed body and spool design, helping protect the reel's internal components when exposed to spray, surf and harsh saltwater environments.

That makes the VRII particularly attractive to anglers who fish beaches, passes, jetties, boats and other environments where conventional spinning reels can see significant saltwater exposure.

Fully Machined 6061 Aluminum Body

Rather than relying on a conventional lightweight composite frame, Van Staal machines the VRII body from 6061 aluminum.

The result is a reel designed to provide rigidity and durability while remaining relatively lightweight for a sealed saltwater spinning reel.

Waterproof Drag System

The VRII features a powerful waterproof drag system designed for consistent performance under demanding saltwater conditions.

Drag capability varies by reel size, ranging from 25 pounds in the smaller models to 40 pounds in the larger VRII sizes, giving anglers options for everything from lighter coastal fishing to considerably more demanding applications.

Stainless-Steel Spiral-Bevel Gearing

Inside the reel is a stainless-steel spiral-bevel gear system, providing the drivetrain durability expected from a reel designed for repeated saltwater use.

The VRII also features Van Staal's updated Powergrip handle and drag knob, distinguishing the new VRII generation from the original VR Series.

Bailed — With Bail-Less Flexibility

The VRII comes configured as a bailed spinning reel, providing the familiar line-management system most spinning anglers prefer.

But Van Staal also includes a bail-less conversion kit, giving anglers the option to convert the reel if their fishing style or conditions favor a bail-less setup.

That's an important selling point: you're not permanently locked into one configuration.

Why Choose the Van Staal VRII?

The VRII makes sense for anglers who want Van Staal's sealed construction without necessarily stepping into the heavier and more expensive VSX2 platform.

You get a fully machined aluminum body, sealed body and spool, waterproof drag and stainless-steel gearing in a reel that's versatile enough to cover a broad range of saltwater fishing.

The inclusion of the bail-less conversion kit is another advantage. Fish it bailed for everyday inshore and coastal use, or convert it for anglers who prefer Van Staal's traditional bail-less approach.

Premier Tackle Take

The Van Staal VRII is much more than a surf reel, and that's how we'd position it at Premier Tackle.

For Florida anglers, the smaller and mid-size VRII models make excellent inshore and coastal reels for snook, redfish and lighter tarpon applications, while the larger sizes provide the line capacity and drag capability needed for substantially heavier fishing.

It's especially appealing for anglers fishing Sarasota, Anna Maria Island, Longboat Key, Boca Grande and Tampa Bay, where a reel can see everything from boat spray to beach and pass fishing.

If you want a premium spinning reel that combines serious saltwater protection, machined-aluminum construction and everyday usability, the VRII occupies a very useful spot in the Van Staal lineup.
