Umpqua Classic Bass Popper No Legs Fly

The Umpqua Classic Bass Popper No Legs Fly is a traditional topwater pattern designed to bring bass to the surface with the visual excitement that makes popper fishing with a fly rod so much fun.

Built around the proven profile of a classic bass popper, this legless version provides a cleaner, more streamlined presentation while still creating the surface disturbance needed to get the attention of aggressive fish.

Fish it around lily pads, grass edges, docks, shoreline cover, fallen timber and other shallow-water structure where bass are looking toward the surface for an easy meal. Short strips and twitches create pop and disturbance, while pauses give following fish an opportunity to strike.

Umpqua offers the Classic Bass Popper No Legs in Frog, Minnow and Red/White color patterns and sizes 6 and 10, giving anglers options for different forage, conditions and fish sizes.

How to Fish It

Cast the Classic Bass Popper No Legs near cover and allow the fly to settle before beginning the retrieve.

Use short strips or rod-tip twitches to make the popper disturb the surface, then pause. Vary the length of the pause until the fish tell you what they want.

Bass will often strike during the pause rather than while the fly is moving, so give the fly time to sit before making the next pop.

Premier Tackle Take

Topwater bass fishing with a fly rod is about as visual as freshwater fishing gets, and a classic popper remains one of the simplest ways to do it.

The No Legs version provides a cleaner profile than a traditional rubber-legged bass popper, making it a useful alternative when you want a straightforward surface presentation.

For Florida anglers, this is a natural choice for working ponds, lakes, canals and shallow cover for largemouth bass.
