Shimano Sellus B Casting Rod

The Shimano Sellus B Casting Rod is a lightweight, affordable baitcasting rod designed for bass anglers who want dependable Shimano performance for everyday freshwater fishing.

The current Sellus B generation gets a meaningful upgrade with Shimano's DIAFLASH technology, reinforcing the lower section of the blank to reduce twisting and energy loss. Shimano pairs the lightweight blank with a Hybrid Cork + EVA grip for comfortable, all-day fishing.

At $64.99 MSRP, the Sellus B sits below the SLX in Shimano's bass-rod lineup, making it an excellent entry point for anglers building their first baitcasting setup or adding an affordable technique-specific rod.

Lightweight Freshwater Performance

The Sellus B is built around a powerful yet lightweight blank, giving anglers the responsiveness needed for artificial-lure fishing without making the rod unnecessarily heavy or complicated.

It's a versatile platform for common bass techniques including:

• Texas Rigs
• Soft Plastic Worms
• Jigs
• Spinnerbaits
• Chatterbaits
• Swim Jigs
• Topwater
• Lipless Crankbaits
• General Baitcasting Applications

DIAFLASH Blank Reinforcement

Shimano equips the Sellus B with DIAFLASH, a reinforcing structure in the lower section of the blank.

Diagonal carbon tape is wrapped in opposing directions to help resist blank twist under load. The design helps reduce energy loss while providing additional control during casting, hooksets and fish fights.

It's technology also found farther up Shimano's current rod lineup, including the SLX series.

Three Versatile 7' Models

Shimano keeps the Sellus B Casting lineup straightforward with three 7-foot, one-piece, fast-action models.

Medium

Choose the Medium for lighter artificial presentations where casting control and a more forgiving power are useful.

Medium-Heavy

The Medium-Heavy is the best all-around option for most bass anglers. Its 1/4–3/4 oz lure range works well for Texas rigs, jigs, spinnerbaits, ChatterBaits and many everyday bass presentations.

Heavy

Choose the Heavy for heavier lures, thicker vegetation and applications where additional pulling power is needed. It's rated for lures from 1/2 to 1 1/2 ounces and 15–30 lb mono.

Hybrid Cork + EVA Grip

The Sellus B uses Shimano's Hybrid Cork + EVA grip, combining the traditional feel of cork with the durability and secure grip of EVA.

It's designed to provide a comfortable, non-slip connection to the rod throughout a full day of casting.

Choosing Between Shimano Sellus B & SLX

The Sellus B and SLX fill different positions in Shimano's freshwater lineup.

Choose the Sellus B when you want an affordable, lightweight bass rod for everyday freshwater fishing. Its three 7' Fast-action models cover the core Medium through Heavy powers most anglers need.

Step up to the Shimano SLX Casting Rod if you want a broader lineup with more lengths, powers and technique-specific options, including glass and dedicated swimbait models. Shimano currently prices the Sellus B at $64.99 versus approximately $99.99–$109.99 for the SLX.

I would definitely internally link Sellus B → SLX here, and SLX → Sellus B on the SLX page. This is exactly the type of natural good/better comparison where the reciprocal link helps the customer.

Premier Tackle Take

The Shimano Sellus B is where we'd start for someone who wants a quality freshwater baitcasting rod at a very reasonable price.

The 7' Medium-Heavy Fast is our pick for the most versatile setup. It covers a large percentage of everyday Florida bass fishing and pairs naturally with an SLX-series baitcasting reel.

If you're building a more specialized bass arsenal or want more rod choices, step up to the SLX. But for an affordable, dependable all-around bass rod, the Sellus B gives you a lot for $64.99.
