Description

Shimano Curado DC 150 A Baitcasting Reel – 2026

The 2026 Shimano Curado DC 150 A takes one of Shimano's most popular digitally controlled baitcasting reels and gives it a substantial performance upgrade.

The new generation combines Shimano's proven Digital Control braking system with an upgraded I-DC4 system, MGL Spool III, SilentTune, MicroModule gearing, X-Ship, HAGANE Body and Cross Carbon Drag.

Shimano's Digital Control system uses an onboard microcomputer to monitor spool speed 1,000 times per second, automatically applying braking force throughout the cast to help reduce backlash while maximizing casting performance.

The addition of MGL Spool III makes the new Curado DC even more versatile, improving spool startup, casting response and control with lighter presentations.

Premier Tackle carries the new Curado DC 150 A in the two faster and most versatile gear ratios: HG 7.4:1 and XG 8.5:1, with both right- and left-hand retrieve options.

Explore our complete collection of Shimano Baitcasting Reels to compare the Curado DC with other Shimano casting platforms.

Shimano Digital Control Braking

The defining technology of the Curado DC is Shimano's Digital Control braking system.

An onboard microcomputer monitors spool speed 1,000 times every second and continuously adjusts braking force as the spool accelerates and decelerates during the cast.

Instead of relying entirely on a fixed mechanical or centrifugal brake setting, the DC system responds to changes in spool speed while the cast is actually happening.

The goal is straightforward:

Reduce backlash while maintaining casting distance and control.

For experienced baitcasting anglers, that means greater consistency when trying to maximize casting performance.

For anglers still developing their baitcasting skills, Digital Control can make the reel considerably more forgiving.

Upgraded I-DC4 Braking System

The 2026 Curado DC 150 A features an updated I-DC4 external Digital Control system with four easy-to-select modes.

Mode 1 — Maximum Distance

Designed to minimize braking and maximize casting distance.

Use Mode 1 when conditions allow you to open the reel up and let the lure fly.

Mode 2 — Braid & Monofilament

Optimized for fishing with braided line or nylon monofilament.

This is a versatile setting for a wide range of everyday bass-fishing applications.

Mode 3 — Fluorocarbon

Designed around the characteristics of fluorocarbon line.

Fluorocarbon behaves differently on a baitcasting spool, and this setting adjusts the braking profile accordingly.

Mode 4 — Maximum Control

Provides maximum braking for situations where spool control is more important than outright casting distance.

Use it for:

  • Skipping Docks

  • Casting Into Heavy Wind

  • Short Precision Casts

  • Tight Cover

  • Difficult Casting Conditions

The four-mode system makes it easy to adapt the Curado DC to changing line, lure and fishing conditions without constantly making complicated adjustments.

New MGL Spool III

One of the most important upgrades to the new Curado DC is Shimano's MGL Spool III.

The lightweight, low-inertia spool is designed to begin rotating with less energy during the cast.

Improved spool startup translates into better:

  • Casting Response

  • Casting Distance

  • Accuracy

  • Lure Control

  • Performance With Lighter Presentations

This expands the Curado DC's usable range.

It doesn't turn the Curado into a dedicated BFS reel, but it does make an already versatile 150-size baitcaster considerably more capable when you start moving toward lighter presentations.

MGL Spool III + Digital Control

This combination is what really separates the new generation.

MGL Spool III reduces rotational inertia while I-DC4 electronically controls the spool throughout the cast.

The spool can accelerate quickly, while the Digital Control system manages braking as spool speed changes.

That gives anglers the benefits of a more responsive spool without giving up the control that made the Curado DC popular in the first place.

SilentTune

Shimano also adds SilentTune to the new Curado DC 150 A.

SilentTune applies controlled pressure to the spool bearing to reduce vibration during high-speed spool rotation.

Reducing unnecessary vibration improves spool stability and contributes to a smoother, quieter and more refined casting feel.

Combined with MGL Spool III, it's another meaningful improvement to the Curado's casting system.

HAGANE Body

The Curado DC 150 A is built around Shimano's rigid HAGANE Body.

The highly rigid metal structure is designed to resist flex when the reel is under load.

That rigidity helps maintain proper alignment of the drivetrain while efficiently transferring the angler's input into cranking power.

It's one of the reasons Curado reels have earned their reputation as dependable workhorse baitcasters.

MicroModule Gearing

Shimano's MicroModule gearing uses precisely engineered gear teeth to increase contact between the drive and pinion gears.

The result is a smoother, more refined retrieve while maintaining the durability expected from a Curado.

X-Ship

X-Ship provides additional support to the pinion gear to help maintain alignment under load.

Combined with the HAGANE Body and MicroModule gearing, it gives the Curado DC a drivetrain designed to remain smooth and efficient when pressure is applied.

Cross Carbon Drag

Shimano equips the new Curado DC with its proven Cross Carbon Drag system.

The system provides smooth, consistent and durable drag performance across a broad adjustment range.

The HG models provide up to 13 lb. of maximum drag, while the XG models provide up to 12 lb.

Choosing Between the Curado DC HG & XG

Premier Tackle carries the new Curado DC 150 A in HG and XG, giving anglers a choice between versatile speed and maximum line pickup.

Curado DC 150HG / 151HG — 7.4:1

The HG is our choice for the angler who wants one Curado DC to cover the widest range of bass-fishing techniques.

Specifications:

  • Gear Ratio: 7.4:1

  • Retrieve: 32" per crank

  • Weight: 7.8 oz.

  • Maximum Drag: 13 lb.

  • Bearings: 6+1

Best for:

  • Texas Rigs

  • Jigs

  • Jerkbaits

  • Topwaters

  • Spinnerbaits

  • Chatterbaits

  • Soft Plastics

  • General Bass Fishing

  • All-Around Baitcasting

If you're buying one Curado DC to do a little bit of everything, we'd choose the HG.

Curado DC 150XG / 151XG — 8.5:1

The XG increases retrieve speed to 37 inches per crank.

That faster line pickup is particularly valuable when you need to quickly recover slack or move a fish away from cover.

Specifications:

  • Gear Ratio: 8.5:1

  • Retrieve: 37" per crank

  • Weight: 7.9 oz.

  • Maximum Drag: 12 lb.

  • Bearings: 6+1

Best for:

  • Flipping

  • Pitching

  • Frogs

  • Dock Fishing

  • Heavy Cover

  • Texas Rigs

  • Jigs

  • Fast Line Pickup

  • Techniques Requiring Quick Slack Recovery

Choose the XG when speed and rapid line recovery are priorities.

Right & Left-Hand Models

Premier Tackle carries:

  • 150HG A — 7.4:1 Right Hand

  • 151HG A — 7.4:1 Left Hand

  • 150XG A — 8.5:1 Right Hand

  • 151XG A — 8.5:1 Left Hand

That gives both right- and left-hand anglers access to either of the two gear ratios we consider most useful in the new Curado DC platform.

Line Capacity

Both gear ratios provide the same basic spool capacity.

Monofilament:

  • 10 lb. / 120 yd.

  • 12 lb. / 110 yd.

  • 14 lb. / 90 yd.

PowerPro Braid:

  • 20 lb. / 150 yd.

  • 30 lb. / 135 yd.

  • 40 lb. / 105 yd.

The 150-size platform provides plenty of capacity for the majority of freshwater bass-fishing applications while remaining compact and comfortable to palm.

Built for Modern Bass Fishing

The Curado DC 150 A isn't designed around one technique.

The combination of a compact 150-size platform, MGL Spool III and Digital Control braking makes it useful across a wide range of bass presentations.

Fish it with:

  • Jigs

  • Texas Rigs

  • Soft Plastics

  • Spinnerbaits

  • Chatterbaits

  • Jerkbaits

  • Topwaters

  • Frogs

  • Swimbaits

  • Flipping & Pitching Presentations

Where the Curado DC Fits in the Shimano Lineup

The Curado DC occupies an important position within Shimano's baitcasting lineup.

It combines the durability and versatility associated with Curado with Shimano's electronically controlled casting technology and the responsive performance of MGL Spool III.

If Digital Control is the priority, the Curado DC provides a performance step between Shimano's more accessible casting platforms and premium DC reels such as the Metanium DC.

Why Choose the New Curado DC 150 A?

The reason to choose the new Curado DC isn't simply that it has a computer-controlled braking system.

It's the combination of Digital Control and MGL Spool III.

The DC system actively manages spool speed throughout the cast while the lower-inertia MGL Spool III improves startup response and casting performance.

That gives the new Curado DC a broader performance range than simply being a baitcaster that's easier to cast without backlash.

Add Shimano's HAGANE Body, MicroModule gearing, X-Ship, SilentTune and Cross Carbon Drag, and the Curado DC 150 A becomes a serious all-around bass reel built around casting performance, control and durability.

Premier Tackle Take

The 2026 Shimano Curado DC 150 A is a meaningful upgrade to a reel that was already one of Shimano's most versatile baitcasters.

The biggest change for us is MGL Spool III combined with the updated I-DC4 Digital Control system.

You're getting the casting control that made the Curado DC popular, but now with a lower-inertia spool designed to improve startup, responsiveness and performance across a wider range of presentations.

Between the two versions we carry, the choice is straightforward.

For the angler who wants one Curado DC to cover the widest range of bass techniques, we'd choose the 7.4:1 HG.

For frogs, flipping, pitching, heavy cover and techniques where rapid line pickup matters, we'd choose the 8.5:1 XG.

Both give you Shimano's new MGL Spool III and updated Digital Control platform. The decision comes down primarily to how quickly you want to pick up line.
