Shimano Curado DC 150/151 A Baitcasting Reel | 2026 Model
The 2026 Shimano Curado DC 150/151 A Baitcasting Reel delivers next-generation casting performance with Shimano's new MGL Spool III and updated I-DC4 Digital Control braking system. Built for precision, versatility, and dependable performance, the Curado DC combines responsive spool control, smooth gearing, and a rigid HAGANE Body for serious freshwater anglers.
Engineered primarily for bass fishing, the Curado DC is also a reel anglers may consider for occasional, carefully maintained light inshore applications, including casting artificial lures for redfish, speckled trout, and smaller snook. However, this model is not designated by Shimano as a saltwater-rated reel.
Available in 150 right-hand and 151 left-hand retrieve configurations, with HG and XG gear ratio options.
What's New on the 2026 Shimano Curado DC?
MGL Spool III – Improved Casting Performance
The new Shimano MGL Spool III features a lightweight, low-inertia design that improves spool startup and casting responsiveness.
This provides better control when casting lighter artificial lures, including soft plastics, jigs, twitch baits, and other presentations requiring accuracy.
Updated I-DC4 Digital Control Braking
Shimano's I-DC4 braking system electronically monitors spool speed and automatically adjusts braking throughout the cast to help reduce backlashes while maintaining casting distance.
Four externally selectable modes provide adjustments for:
-
Maximum casting distance
-
Braided line and monofilament
-
Fluorocarbon line
-
Additional braking for wind and dock skipping
The external adjustment dial allows anglers to adapt quickly as conditions change.

Light Inshore Fishing Considerations
For anglers fishing Florida's coastal waters, the Curado DC 150/151 A may also be considered for occasional light inshore artificial-lure fishing.
Potential applications include:
-
Redfish: Soft plastics, paddle tails, and topwater plugs on shallow flats.
-
Speckled Trout: Lightweight jig heads, twitch baits, and artificial shrimp.
-
Snook: Smaller artificial lures in lighter-cover situations.
Important: Shimano does not designate the 2026 Curado DC 150/151 A as saltwater-rated. Saltwater exposure increases corrosion risk, particularly around bearings and internal components. Avoid submersion, rinse and dry carefully after incidental exposure, and follow Shimano's maintenance recommendations. For frequent saltwater fishing, choose a reel specifically rated for that environment.
Shimano Curado DC HG vs. XG – Which Should You Choose?
HG – 7.4:1 Gear Ratio
The Curado DC 150HG A and 151HG A provide a versatile retrieve speed for a wide range of techniques.
Best for: Texas rigs, jigs, spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, topwater lures, and general-purpose casting.
Premier Tackle recommendation: Choose the HG for the most versatile all-around setup.
XG – 8.5:1 Gear Ratio
The Curado DC 150XG A and 151XG A provide faster line recovery for techniques requiring quick slack pickup.
Best for: Frogs, flipping, pitching, jigs, heavy-cover bass fishing, and fast line management.
Premier Tackle recommendation: Choose the XG when rapid line recovery is a priority.
Right-Hand vs. Left-Hand Retrieve
-
150: Right-hand retrieve
-
151: Left-hand retrieve
Select your preferred gear ratio and retrieve direction from the available options.
Pair Your Shimano Curado DC With the Right Rod & Line
For general-purpose bass fishing, a 7' to 7'3" medium-heavy fast-action casting rod is an excellent starting point.
For lighter presentations, consider a medium-power casting rod. For frogs and heavy cover, a heavier rod may be more appropriate.
Braided line, fluorocarbon, and monofilament can all be suitable depending on your fishing technique.
