The Moonlighter Cast Net is a heavy-duty, professional-style bait net built for anglers who regularly catch their own live bait.

Moonlighter nets use double-knotted mesh and a heavily weighted lead line to provide durability and a fast sink rate—important when you're throwing over schools of pilchards, threadfin herring, sardines, shrimp and other fast-moving bait. Current Moonlighter Original nets are commonly built with 1.5 pounds of lead per radius foot, depending on the specific model.

Moonlighter's Original nets use approximately 1.5 lb of lead per radius foot, giving them the weight needed to sink quickly before bait can escape underneath the net.

This makes them particularly well suited for serious Florida live-bait fishing where you're frequently throwing over moving schools of bait.

Double-Knotted Mesh

Moonlighter uses double-knotted mesh designed to resist running, ripping and tearing.

Choose Your Mesh Size

Moonlighter cast nets are available in multiple mesh sizes, allowing you to match the net to the bait you're targeting. Current listings include 1/4" and 3/8" mesh, among other specialized configurations.

1/4" Mesh — Best for smaller bait and situations where preventing bait from becoming gilled in the mesh is important.

3/8" Mesh — An excellent all-around choice for common Florida live baits such as pilchards, threadfins and sardines. The larger mesh also allows water to pass through more easily.

Choose the Right Radius

Moonlighter nets are offered in multiple diameters, with commonly available models ranging from 6' through 12' radius, depending on mesh size.

6' Radius — Easier to throw and control. Good for newer cast-net users or tight areas.

8' Radius — An excellent balance of coverage and manageability for everyday inshore bait fishing.

10' Radius — More coverage for experienced anglers targeting larger schools of bait.

12' Radius — Maximum coverage for anglers comfortable throwing a large, heavily weighted professional-style net.

The big advantage is the combination of weight and durable double-knotted mesh. A heavier net takes more effort to throw, but it also gets down quickly—which matters when you're trying to cover a school of pilchards or threadfins before they move.

For most Florida inshore anglers, an 8' or 10' net with 3/8" mesh is a very versatile setup. If you're primarily targeting smaller bait, the 1/4" mesh is worth considering.
