Gamakatsu Offset Shank EWG Worm Hooks
The Gamakatsu Offset Shank EWG Worm Hook is a versatile soft-plastic hook designed for Texas rigs, Carolina rigs, stick baits, creature baits and soft-plastic jerkbaits.
The Extra Wide Gap (EWG) design creates additional clearance between the hook point and shank, making it especially effective with thicker and bulkier soft plastics. Gamakatsu specifically highlights the EWG for everything from Senko-style baits and Brush Hogs to large worms and soft-plastic jerkbaits.
For bass anglers who want one hook style capable of handling a broad range of soft plastics, the EWG is one of the most versatile choices in the tackle box.
Extra Wide Gap Design
The EWG's wider gap gives thicker soft plastics room to compress when a fish strikes, helping expose the hook point for a solid hookset.
That makes it particularly useful for stick baits, creature baits, craws, flukes and larger worms where a traditional narrow-gap worm hook may not provide enough clearance.
Offset Shank for Weedless Rigging
The offset shank helps secure the nose of the soft plastic while allowing the hook point to be rigged back into or tight against the bait.
This creates a streamlined, weedless presentation that's ideal for fishing around grass, vegetation, brush and other cover.

Why Choose the Gamakatsu EWG?
The biggest advantage is versatility.
If an angler only wants to carry a few styles of worm hooks, an EWG belongs near the top of the list. Its wide gap handles substantially more soft-plastic shapes than a traditional worm hook, while the offset shank makes weedless rigging straightforward.
Gamakatsu calls this its most popular and versatile hook and the “gold standard” of its wide-gap designs.
Premier Tackle Take
The Gamakatsu EWG is a staple hook for Florida bass fishing.
It's particularly useful because Florida anglers fish so many soft plastics around grass, hydrilla, pads and other vegetation. Rig a stick bait, worm, creature bait or soft jerkbait weedless and you have a presentation that can work through cover without constantly hanging up.
For heavier braid and truly heavy cover, we'd step up to the Gamakatsu Superline EWG, which uses heavier high-carbon wire specifically for those applications.
