Diamond Swordfish Wind-On Leader
The Diamond Swordfish Wind-On Leader is purpose-built for the demanding conditions of deep-drop swordfish fishing. At 150 feet long, this specialized wind-on gives anglers the heavy leader length needed for swordfish while allowing the connection to pass smoothly through the rod guides and onto the reel.
Diamond constructs its wind-on system using high-strength leader material combined with a low-stretch Dyneema loop. The leader attaches to the main line through a loop-to-loop connection, creating a clean system that can travel through the guides while eliminating the need to manage an exceptionally long conventional leader by hand.
Unlike Diamond's standard 25-foot wind-on leaders, the Swordfish Wind-On is 150 feet long and offered specifically in heavy tests appropriate for swordfish applications. Diamond currently lists two versions: 250 lb Clear White at 1.66 mm diameter and 300 lb Smoke Blue at 1.81 mm diameter.
For anglers dropping baits hundreds or thousands of feet for daytime swordfish, the long wind-on design provides a practical transition between the main line and terminal rig while giving you the heavy leader necessary when a sword comes close to the boat.

Swordfish setups present a different challenge from conventional offshore trolling rigs. You need a substantial length of heavy leader, but handling 150 feet of heavy mono outside the reel would be cumbersome.
